CAD Operator/Designer

 

Basic Job Description

The CAD Operator/Designer is responsible for the end-to-end drafting duties to bring architectural products to market.  From conceptual layouts, and detailed shop drawings to assessing site conditions and finalizing architectural panel designs, this is a pivotal role in our organization.  

 

Day to day responsibilities will include developing detailed shop drawings, converting site measurements into panel layouts, and preparing panel designs for fabrication.  This role will requires an intense eye for detail as it is the starting point in designing and fabricating the highest quality architectural panels on the market.

 

Prior experience in the architectural products industry is not necessary, but it is considered an asset.  We believe that the industry and products can be learned, but attitude, energy and passion is something that only you can bring to work every day.  Personal drive, a willingness to learn and self-improve, and the relentless pursuit of perfecting our customer experience will be by far your most important traits.

 

The ideal candidate will possess these personality traits in combination with an extensive experience in CAD design, the ability to juggle a multitude of projects and relentlessly pursue the ongoing success of our customers.

 

Primary Initial Duties

  • Generate shop drawings for architect/contractor approval

  • Optimize architectural panel layout for cost efficiencies

  • Prepare final take-offs in preparation for material order

  • Perform site visits to gather building measurements

  • Migrate shop drawings to as-built conditions

  • Design architectural panels in preparation for CNC fabrication

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives

  • Ensure a constant flow of panel designs are available for production

  • Project manage new initiatives and process improvements, including new software packages, documentation and process flow.

 

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily office based, with extensive time spent in front of a PC.

  • Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours may fluctuate on business volume, and some overtime will be required during our busy seasons.

  • PPE as required by construction sites and within the production facility

  • Some travel will be required

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • 3 to 5 years in a similar CAD Operator/Technician Role

  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2018 is required

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is required.

  • Experience with Fusion and Revit is an asset

  • Ability to do material take-offs with standard PDF tools is required

  • Ability to efficiently read and interpret both architectural and structural drawings quickly and accurately is required

  • Relevant experience in the field of architectural design/drafting is an asset.

  • Experience with 5S and lean manufacturing considered an asset

  • Proven track record of exceeding customer expectations, both internally and externally

  • Passionate about continuous improvement, both personally as an individual and in the context of a manufacturing environment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work alone with minimum supervision.  Being a self starter is a must.

  • Must be able to work under high pressure with numerous interruptions

  • Must be able to juggle 15 to 20 projects at a time.

  • Preference given to candidates with mechanical and/or electrical aptitude

  • Easily adaptable to new software packages. 

  • Strong communications skills.  Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to take direction and follow pre-established guidelines

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize

  • Quickly prioritize work based on both internal (production schedule) and external factors (customer requirements)

ARCHITECTURAL PANEL FABRICATOR/

PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN

Basic Job Description

The Panel Fabricator is responsible for day to day production tasks centered on the fabrication of architectural panels, primarily focused on Aluminum Composite panels; catering to the building industry. This includes the operation of CNC routers and on occasion: shears, iron-workers, presses, notchers, and s-lock machines.

Prior experience with Aluminum Composite Material and Metal Composite Material is required. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter, posses the ability to work with minimal supervision, have energy and passion as well as strong problem solving skills. Personal drive, a willingness to learn and self-improve, and the relentless pursuit of perfecting our customer experience will be by far your most important traits.

The ideal candidate will possess these personality traits and have prior experience with CNC equipment, working with ACM (either through fabrication and/or installation), and lean manufacturing. Welding and sheet metal experience are considered assets.

Primary Initial Duties

  • Fabrication of architectural panels

  • Packaging, crating and arranging shipments of panels

  • Operation of CNC routers and folding machines

  • Cutting clips

  • Operation of various metal shearing, punching, stamping equipment and other similar tools

  • 5S and overall shop floor cleanliness

  • Receipt of goods and stock replenishment

  • Forklift operation

Future Responsibilities and Career Path

  • Deliveries of finished goods to customer locations

  • Maintenance of equipment

  • Programming of CNC equipment

  • Update and maintain relevant data systems (Google Docs, Digital Kanban Boards, etc)

  • Inspect and record non-conformances between parts, assemblies, sales orders, etc

  • Hot air welding and riveting

  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

Working Conditions

  • Work will be of a physical nature

  • Production work is done primarily indoors

  • Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours may fluctuate on business volume, and some overtime is required during our busy seasons.

  • Steel toe boots must be worn at all times when in the warehouse.

  • Gloves must be worn at all times when handling sheet metal.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.

  • Experience with CNC equipment is an asset

  • Prior experience with Aluminum Composite Material is required

  • A clean driving record is required.

  • Forklift certification preferred.

  • Experience with 5S and lean manufacturing considered an asset

  • Proven track record of exceeding customer expectations

  • Passionate about continuous improvement, both personally as an individual and in the context of a manufacturing environment.

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Preference given to candidates with mechanical and/or electrical aptitude

  • Strong communications skills. Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing

  • Sound knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds required on a routine basis.
